the Technical Board and the Jour Fixe of the ILIAS Society discussed how
to proceed with the decision-making process about supported/required
versions of different software for ILIAS 6.0 on the last meeting [1].
To finally take the decision on the next Jour Fixe and also decide upon
the test installation system for ILIAS 6.0 we need your feedback on the
issue.

Dear ILIAS administrators,
the NIC registration of new ILIAS installations or the subsequent request for a NIC ID for an already running ILIAS is not working since two days. Reason for this is a new URL of the NIC server due to internal reorganisation of servers and domains. The hard-coded address of the NIC server is no longer supported and therefore registration fails.
The problem has now been fixed in all currently maintained ILIAS versions. If you want to install a new ILIAS or get a NIC ID for an already existing installation, please update your ILIAS to the latest version from GitHub and then run the NIC registration.
